This
guide to grilling steaks should help you get the most out
of your cut of beef. |
Pre-heat
your grill to its highest setting at least 10 minutes before
you want to start cooking. Try and position your steak 2-3 inches
(50-75mm) away from the heat, turning the steak over half way
through to grill the other side.
Timings will vary due to the thickness of the steak (see
below). You can use a skewer inserted into the thickest part
of the meat to test the colour of the juices. Very pink is rare,
slightly pink is medium and clear is well
done |
|
For 1
inch (25mm) thick steak e.g. rump or sirloin 1½ - 2 minutes
per side for rare, medium 3 minutes per side, well done 4 minutes
per side.
For fillet steak: 1½ inches (37mm) thick 5 minutes
per side for medium. 1 minute less each side for rare and 1
minute more per side for well done. |
